We are proud to annouce that a 3rd Nova Scotia newspaper has choosen HomeZilla to power their real estate section; both online and in print.

The Lighthouse Log is the newspaper for Lunenburg County in Nova Scotia; their website is SouthShoreNow.ca. You can check out thier list of Pictou County Real Estate For Sale to see how HomeZilla has integrated into their website.

HomeZilla powering their print section is key to a succesful partnership because in small communities print is still king.

Newfoundland here we come…

We are happy at annouce that HomeZilla has started receiving listing from the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of REALTORS! Newfoundland becomes HomeZilla’s second province where were accept listing from real estate offices.

The first office to share listing with us is Sutton Newfoundland and Labrador. We send a big thanks out to them for being our first in Newfoundland.

Now that all the bugs are worked out of the process, we are going to start getting listing from other Newfoundland offices as well.

Nova Scotia listing photos go to the judges!

This Friday we are happy to annouce a new, fun and informative feature on HomeZilla.
The ‘Best and Worst’ of listing photos from our Nova Scotia feed.

On each slide show HomeZilla puts a ‘thumbs up/thumbs down’ button for visitors to cast their vote.

Each visitor gets a single vote per pictures. We tally the votes and create our list of the best and worst listing photos. Real estate agents have said ‘get rid of the Worst Listing Photos’ but my question to you is…. which link do you want to click first:

Please give us lots of feedback…it is a new feature so we wants lots of it.

Listing Photos – The good, bad, and ugly!

Everyone starts their home buying process online. That means listing photos are one of the first things people will use to ‘judge’ your home. Are these photos good? bad? just ugly? Well HomeZilla has launched a new feature to find out what people think of listing photos.

When you view a slideshow of listing photos on HomeZilla there will be ‘thumbs up | thumbs down’ buttons which allow you to cast your vote. Then starting on May 7th we will have the ‘Top 10 Best’ and ‘Top 10 Worst’ listing photos for the past week.

Sutton enhances listing with the HomeZilla Hoody

The HomeZilla team is pleased to annouce our partnership with Sutton Group Realty Serivce Inc. Sutton has added our Hoody to their listings. Ex: Check out the ammenities around a $17,000,000 house. Sutton has been increasing their web presence steadily in 2009 our Hoody is just the latest step.

“Adding HomeZilla’s neighbourhood intelligence to Sutton’s listings was an important part of our new technology offerings,” said Gabriel Soh, Marketing Manager at Sutton Group Realty Services Ltd. “Home buyers are demanding more neighbourhood knowledge and HomeZilla’s Hoody gives them access to that information.”

Having the Hoody on Sutton increases HomeZilla’s reach and but the big win is the boost to HomeZilla Analytics. Our analytic tools produce reports on research trends for a given house, neighbourhood, or city. Being tied to specific listings will help us better understand how people research a specific house.

This is a first step in the Hoody’s evolution. My questions to you…
What other neighbourhood information would you want to see? More businesses? Neighbourhood bounds? Election history?

Realtor.ca improves; HomeZilla makes it better!

Realtor.ca (website formerly known as MLS.ca) has received mixed reactions since its launch. When a popular website changes their UI people always complain because it is ‘new and strange’. Now month later, we don’t see many bloggers complaining about the UI. Maybe they gave up or maybe they have moved onto the next story.

The HomeZilla team, since our redesign, hears lots of comments from people that they love our UI and our neighbourhood information. Occasionally, people tell me how they use Realtor.ca and HomeZilla side by side when house hunting. HomeZilla doesn’t provide house listings but we have all the Canadian neighbourhood information you will need. You can find the closest school, parks, restaurants and demographics information. Homezilla constantly adding data is part of our DNA so when you need to research a Canadian neighbourhood do a search on HomeZilla.

Realtor.ca Goes Mobile

Realtor.ca is has launched their new mobile version of the site. This is a huge advance for Realtor.ca and shows they are responding to new listing competitors (ZooCasa I am looking at you). How will the new Realtor.ca mobile site go over with consumers? Well, the HomeZilla team reviewed it and think it is the minimum they could have done for a mobile site. Lets hope this is a first step for Realtor.ca to make mobile searching much better.
